A “snarf” of sarnies?

whats your favourite?

what's your favourite?

I have no idea whether there really is a collective noun for sandwiches, but in my case, I think it would be a “snarf” (thanks to PVH for introducing me to this word!).

As in, if I see a plate full of sandwiches, I usually end up “snarfing” most of them myself.

May 10th-16th will be British Sandwich Week. In honour and in preparation, we’re using our sister-site, ooffoo.com, to host an “ooffoo round of sandwiches“.

We’ve contributed three seasonally scrumptious sandwich recipes to the round-up, and are inviting everyone we know to submit their own favourites to the list. Really special recipes will be added to the VegBox Recipes database, with your names on them of course, and also to the ooffoo recipes listings.

So read on to check out our sarnie recipes and to share yours : )

I couldn’t resist in sharing a couple of my favourite sarnie recipes, so here goes…

Grated cheese, finely chopped spring onion and mayo — if you’ve not tried it before I urge you to give it a go, it really is tasty.

Diced celery, apple and mayo.

Tastes much better on brown, only because I hate white bread!

Sarnies are hard to beat: I have had a sandwich for my lunch for the past 35 or so years! Favourites? For winter I’d go for a good rye bread- I’m fortunate to live not far from the Hexham farmers market where you can get the Moody Baker’s Rye Bread, which in my opinion is the best rye bread in the world (probaby). Add to that some decent cheese and some home made chutney. My favourites: Birdoswald Cheese and apple chutney. For summer I tend to go for a lighter bread- spelt is good. Keep the cheese but top of with a nice layer of lettuce- try growing Bronze Arrowhead. Scrumptious!

Thanks guys!

@Peter: Just LOVING the name of Moody Baker’s Rye Bread… I hope they’re friendlier than they sound ;) A good local-cheese sarnie is hard to beat. I reckon rather than the chutney, I might just add slices of apple for the crunch, though.

@Andrew: Diced celery, apple and mayo – NYOM!

My home-grown lettuce is just about big enough now to pinch a few leaves to add to my lunch-time sammidge. And I might add in a couple of home-grown spinach leaves too … A few slices of apple, some cheese and a smear of mayo.

SO easy to make yourself hungry food blogging, innit?!
