I think it's the seeds that are the problem. I usually get horrendous burping even from a tiny amount of cucumber. Lately I've been trying them with the seed-containing core removed and it was much better. I've also experimented with skinned and not skinned and couldn't tell the difference with that..

I do believe it's true as I've just eaten salad and can't stop burping and my stomach looks like I'm 4 months pregnant!!
I find that if I peel cucumbers and run a fork down it, this actually does help! Just wish I'd remember to do it this time! My tummy hurts! Take note: Burpless cucumbers are NOT Burpless!!!

Thanks "Cucumber"! Great website, by the way! In your opinion, are home-growers in the UK able to grow cucumbers? Do they fare best in greenhouses, would you say?

The burpless varities of cucumbers have thinner skins and smaller seeds which is suppose to minimize the gases that promote burping.

I have been experiencing burping lately. I eat cucumbers every day without the skin and seeds with a fat free balsamic vinagerette and still experience burping. I will now look into buying and growing burpless cucumbers if I can find them. I also like spicy foods which does not help much either.

I suffer from cucumber burps for a few hours after I eat it. Tsatsiki doesn't affect me, and I've found if I add vineger to cucumber sandwiches it doesn't affect me either. But if I want to just munch on some cucumber sticks, it's best to keep away!
