Tractor Rides With Rowie

Tractor RidesI have to confess I had never been on a tractor ride before. So the idea of sitting on an oversized trailer, on bales of straw, whilst babycarrying a 10 week old and trying to persuade a toddler not to jump off, I wasn’t sure what to expect on Sunday! But I loved it!

The Purton House open day was blessed with sunny weather, which helped keep everyone smiling, as the little ones enjoyed the bouncy castle and jugglers and stroked the visiting alpacas, while the grown ups made the most of the organic barbecue and shopped in the farm shop.

The tractor ride was great - a tour round the whole of Purton House’s farm. We got to throw cabbage leaves to feed the limousin cows, had a look in the polytunnels, which Rowie and her team use to extend the growing season and increase variety in the boxes, we learned about how they plant clover with some of the veggies, to reduce the need for weeding and watering, and how they have coped with this summer’s unusual weather.

So thank you to all at Purton House for a great day. And, in case you were wondering, the toddler behaved impeccably on the tractor ride and wanted to go round again!

P.S. Rowie and Pete (from Coleshill Organics) are doing a sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John O’Groats in October, in memory of Rowie’s late husband, Alex. They are raising funds for Children with Leukaemia, The Ellen MacArthur Trust and The Soil Association Apprenticeship Scheme.

  1. We would like to give you an invite to the first Annual Waverly KC tractor ride. We are planning a 10 mile ride to a location for food and drinks and an area were people can come see the tractors; we will then take another 10 mile ride back to the load area this will all be in the country. We would like to give you and anyone else and invite. It will be on Sunday July 27th. We have Motels available and camping areas. We are hoping for a large crowd. Thank you very much for your time and we hope to see you there.

    Regards, J.D. Kramer
